Doncaster Knights 19 London Welsh 40

THE Knights continued their whimpering end to the season as they slumped to defeat against London Welsh.

Doncaster led by a point at the break but saw their second half mistakes ruthlessly punished by a side seemingly certain for the play-off semi-finals.

It was a perfect start for the Knights as they opened the scoring on three minutes.

Fred Burdon broke superbly from half way, dodging several tackles before powering through a final challenge to touch down, Flockhart adding the conversion.

The Knights faced a lot of pressure in the subsequent 15 minutes but held up superbly.

Welsh finally got off the mark with an Alex Davies penalty and the game evened out.

After turning over possession on five metres, Welsh grabbed their first try with Tideswell forcing his way over.

But the Knights responded well and went back ahead on 35 minutes with Matt Challinor powering over aided by Tomas Francis, Flockhart converting.

Another turnover deep in Knights territory allowed the Exiles to score again on the stroke of half time with Nick Scott going over.

The conversion was missed meaning the Knights carried a one point advantage into the break.

That was overturned just 90 seconds into the second half.

The pace of the opening moments was frenetic with the Knights initially surging forward.

But Welsh took possession and a huge kick across the field found Scott in the corner and he dotted down for his second try, converted by Alex Davies.

Ed Jackson was next to go over for the Exiles as they began to move clear with Davies adding the conversion.

Davies slotted over a penalty on 66 minutes and then eight minutes later.

The last say of the game looked to have gone to the Knights when Burdon grabbed his second try of the afternoon a minute from time.

But that was left to the visitors with Scott intercepting a pass ten metres out and racing over for his hat trick, Davies adding the conversion to close out the game.

The Knights now have a two week gap before their penultimate game of a campaign they are surely desperate to be over.
