DONCASTER DONS: Paul Cooke doubtful for Scorpions’ clash

DONCASTER stand-off Paul Cooke is facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s Championship One clash at South Wales Scorpions.

The 31 year-old former Super League star, who recently completed seven marathons in as many days for charity, had an injection in his knee at Tuesday’s training session and Dons’ boss Tony Miller will see how he responds before making a decision.

Former skipper Craig Lawton has definitely being ruled out with the same back problem which kept him out of Sunday’s 78-6 win over Gateshead at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“He’s made progress this week but he won’t be fit for this weekend,” said Miller.

On-loan centre Danny Cowling will also be missing again.

“Danny’s still having treatment for his finger injury back at Wakefield and he’ll be out for another couple of weeks,” said Miller. “He’s able to do a lot of the training so when he is given the all-clear he’ll be able to drop straight in.”

Sheffield Eagles prop Alex Rowe, who joined the club on loan last week, suffered no adverse reaction to his first league game for several weeks.

“He suffered a knock to the knee, which we felt could be quite serious at first, but he was able to go back on later and he’s had no problem with it since,” said Miller.

Winger Dean Colton, left out of the frame against Gateshead after missing several training sessions, will come back into contention.
