Doncaster 46 South Wales Scorpions 12

A HAT trick for Tom Hodson was the highlight as the Dons ran out comfortable winners over South Wales Scorpions.

The Dons were a potent attacking force in the first half but showed their defensive strength after the break to ensure they were never in any trouble from the battling visitors.

Craig Robinson opened the scoring after three minutes, running in from 35 metres past a couple of challenges to touch down next to the posts and leaving a simple conversion for Paul Cooke.

The Dons went over again three minutes later following a strong break from Hodson with Jack Ely powering over to get the score.

A good spell of passing from the visitors led to their first try on 14 minutes with Denton Grant going over in the corner and Jamie Rooney converting.

But the Dons continued their march and three minutes later Hodson grabbed his first try with an excellent break from half way which left the covering defence for dead, Cooke adding the conversion.

A mistake from the opposition brought the Dons’ next try as a long kick was carried into touch sparking a phase which Liam Cunningham capped by going over out wide.

The Dons would go over again before the break when Hodson collected Kieran Hyde’s well-placed kick and touched down, Cooke converting.

Hodson completed his hat trick two minutes into the second half, capping a expansive passing move.

Kyle Bibb was next over, spinning a tackle after collecting Kyle Kesik’s pass and diving over with Cooke converting.

Hodson capped his scoring performance with a brilliant piece of defending.

He sprinted more than half the length of the field from the opposite wing to stop a breaking Dave James a couple of metres before the line.

On the hour Lee Waterman dived on a huge kick from Hyde to dot down.

South Wales pulled a try back through Lewis Reece after a break from half way with Rooney converting.

But the last say went to the Dons with Hyde dotting down after an excellent break from Waterman who added the conversion.
