CRUSHED: Dean Winstanley is out of the BDO World Championship.

DEAN Winstanley threw away a two set lead to exit the BDO World Championship in the second round.

The Conisbrough ace lost 4-3 to Somerset’s Alan Norris, despite leading 3-1 and producing some of the best scoring the Lakeside stage has seen so far this year.

Winstanley had a three dart average of around 100 after storming to a 2-0 lead and landed seven maximums in the match.

But Norris pressured from the off in a thrilling hour long contest.

Winstanley looked confident from the start and narrowly missed the bull for a 170 checkout in the opening leg.

He would win that leg and five of the next six to open up a 2-0 lead.

Norris fought back well to lead 2-0 in the third set, only for Winstanley to level with the pressure on.

But Norris held his nerve to land double nine and pull a set back.

Each man broke the throw of the other as the fourth set began but Winstanley held the darts to move within a set of the match.

Norris was strong in the fifth set, finishing the first leg on the bull before an 86 finish saw him close to 3-2.

Winstanley’s performance dipped in the sixth allowing Norris to win the set in straight legs, finishing with an eye-catching 100 checkout.

Norris had the darts in a thrilling deciding set and led for the first time after winning the opening leg.

Winstanley levelled but the tide had definitely turned, Norris landing a 116 finish before going out on 84 to win the match.
