DEAN Winstanley recovered from a nightmare start to enjoy a dream debut at the PDC World Matchplay - knocking out world number four Gary Anderson in a sensational first round match.
The Conisbrough ace threw a 180 with his first three darts but endured a torrid start as string of missed doubles allowed Anderson to take command.
But Winstanley won eight out of nine legs after going 5-0 down before holding his nerve in a tie-break to secure a memorable victory at Winter Gardens.
“I’ve never been stuck for words before but I am tonight – I can’t believe it,” said Winstanley.
“At 5-0 down I said to myself I wasn’t going out, and I dug in.”
Winstanley will meet Ronnie Baxter in the second round on Thursday night after the 1998 runner-up defeated St Helens’ Dave Chisnall.
