DEAN Winstanley insists he is not worried about meeting the PDC elite – but they should be worried about meeting him.

The Conisbrough ace has made the switch to the PDC from the BDO after winning a tour card last month and is confident he can make his mark in the big league.

And he will not let the likes of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis stand in his way.

He said: “I know all about the big names but they haven’t got to know me yet.

“I know I turned a few heads on the first weekend and made a few people sit up and take notice.

“I can’t wait to show them what I’m all about.”

Winstanley – who turned 31 last week – is targeting a place in the world top 32 by the end of the year and hopes to feature in some of the major televised tournaments.

The former BDO World Championship finalist said: “I want to be up there with the main players this time next year.

“I’m determined to trouble the TV tournaments as well.

“It’s going to be difficult with that because I’m starting at the bottom of the ladder.

“But a good run will quickly push me up the rankings.

“I’m putting a lot more into my darts now and it’s starting to pay off because I’m throwing well.”

Winstanley made his PDC debut at the Players Championship events in Benidorm last month.

He picked up eye-catching wins over former BDO world champion Ted Hankey and ex-PDC world finalist Simon Whitlock.

Winstanley’s decision to depart the BDO was shaped by something which happened during his second round defeat to Alan Norris at the World Championships.

He said: “Something happened during the break which never should have happened.

“It’s not something I want to say too much about because I’ve left it all behind me but it definitely left a sour taste.

“I’m now just focused on the move I have made and playing some really good darts.

“I want to make a success out of this to show it was the right thing for me to do at the right time.”
