Horne returns with league’s best bowling figures
Rossington Main: Defeat against Hatfield Town saw them slip from first to third in the table.
AFTER missing the first two weeks of matches in 2012 through illness and work commitments, Barnby Dun’s Jay Horne produced a magnificent display of fielding and bowling on his turn to action in the All Saints Indoor Cricket League.
He produced a scintillating full-length diving catch and a quick reaction to claim a run-out to help dismiss both Warmsworth openers.
His spell of bowling produced the season’s best return of 3-7, culminating with a remarkable return catch to reduce the opposition to a lowly total of 49.
In reply, Stuart McPhee (28 retired not out) continued his blistering form with the bat that keeps his club in touch with the league’s main title contenders
The top-of-the-table clash saw Hatfield Town overcome long-term leaders Rossington Main.
Batting first, Town posted a match-winning total of 114-4 with Andrew Cutts (35) and Chris Stothard (25 not out) both making a successful return to the fold after a gap of several weeks.
Rossington’s reply never got going and they were restricted to 51-2. Joel Evans top-scored with 25 and he was supported by Stewart Groves (18).
Town’s victory saw them climb above their title rivals to claim top spot.Rossington are now down to third as Doncaster Town’s youngsters are breathing down Hatfield’s neck following their comprehensive win over Maltby.
Scot Exley and Mindy Kundra both retired on 25 as they boosted their team’s total to a challenging 103-3.
Accurate bowling by all the Town bowlers restricted their opponents to 50- 4. Only Liam Woodward (16 not out) reached double figures. There was a wicket a piece for Town’s Aiden Hall and James Dobson.
Askern Welfare’s poor run of form came to an end with victory over much-improved Hatfield Main.
Askern restricted their opponents to a total of 102-4, youngster Liam Green top-scoring with 30 not out. He was given good support from Adrian Westacott (21) and Graham Worrall (17). Young left-arm spinner Daniel Wardle was the leading Askern bowler with 2-15.
Andrew Lunn (48) dominated the proceedings when Askern took to the crease. With Gavin Williams (28 not out) giving good support they reached their target with plenty to spare.
Liam Dumphy was Main’s leading bowler, claiming 2-12.
