CHRIS Stothard grabbed a hat-trick in a return of 5-27 as Hatfield Town ended their relegation worries in Pontefract and District Cricket League Division Two with their first league win since June.

Stothard routed Glasshoughton for 107 which Hatfield comfortably overhauled thanks to Malc Griffin’s 41.

Yorkshire Main kept alive their hopes of avoiding the drop by climbing off the foot of the table by beating Thurnscoe.

Scott Sykes (32 not out) guided Edlington-based Main to a seven-wicket victory after Ashley Hutt (4-6) toppled Thurnscoe for 111, despite Don Whitehurst’s 45.

Main, who visit Barnby Dun in their final game on Saturday, are just one point behind third bottom Whitley Bridge.

Barnby’s winning run continued at Askern, who were skittled for 79 by Jay Horne (5-6), Carl Dykes (2-23) and Phil Decent (2-27).

In reply, Dave Longley (4-19), Gareth Williams (2-20) and Paul Bradbury (2-27) caused Barnby problems before they scraped a two-wicket victory.

Mark Hargraves top-scored with 22 as Sprotbrough fell for just 62 in an eight-wicket defeat at Hemsworth.

Openers Peter Butterworth (81) and Josh Mason (80 not out) were in top form as Fishlake completed a league double over Division One rivals Featherstone by beating them by nine wickets.

Sykehouse have a vital final match at fellow Division Three strugglers Ackworth A on Saturday.

Just two points separate Sykehouse, Allerton Bywater and Ackworth at the foot of the table.

Sykehouse were bowled out for 82 in last Saturday’s nine-wicket defeat against leaders Sandal.
