Plant duo in quarter-finals

DONCASTER Plant Works ABC will have two boxers contesting the quarter-finals of the National Schoolboys’ Championships at Everton on Saturday week.

Thomas Bell outpointed Raied Nasser (Sheffield Lane Top) in their Yorkshire Association Class 3 Under-48 final at Havercroft at the weekend.

“Bell won 13-6 and was always on top and the longer the bout went on the more he got on top,” said Plant coach Ken Blood.

Stablemate Reece Goodwin received a walkover at Class 1 Under-34kg level.

Andrew Coltman put up a spirited display in his 13-9 Class 2 Under-50kg defeat against Mo Akbar (Bradford Police Club).

“They were three very hard rounds,” said Blood. “My lad took the first but Akbar took the second. I thought that we had done enough in the third to just shade it and it could have gone either way.”

The Doncaster club suffered another close defeat (10-8) in the Class 2 Under-46kg clash between Jake Goodwin and Danny Christie (St Paul’s).

“It was a cracking contest which was another one which could have gone either way,” said Blood.
