Matrix finds winning formula in Dome’s octagon

KIRK Sandall-based Matrix Fitness Centre boasted a 100 per cent success rate in last weekend’s Combat Sports Fighting Championships, Mixed Martial Arts Cage Fighting at the Dome.

Twenty four year-old Scott Askham (84kg) beat Aureiljus Kerpe in the main event of the evening.

The Doncaster fighter secured a win via a submission after only two minutes and four seconds of the first round.

Other professional fighters in action for the Doncaster club run by Paul Hallam, were 34 year-old Neil ‘Old Skool’ Wain (124kg) who beat Rick ‘Chud’ Dale (120kg) via a technical knock-out after just 44 seconds.

Zi Shah (70kg) celebrated his professional debut with a TKO victory against Mark Aldridge (70g) after just 51 seconds.

James Parker (98kg) also claimed a first round TKO against Daniel Konecke. Matt Parker (92.5kg) beat fellow amateur Macin Prostco (93kg) via a TKO.

Marc Diakiese (70kg) collected a unanimous points decision in his bout with Nick Leaning (70kg).

All six fighters had been in a training camp - which consisted of two sessions a day six days a week for 12 weeks - prior to the show.

Diakiese will be fighting in a “Prize Fighter” which consists of three fights in one night on June 16.

MMA coach Wain defends his “The Northern Guv’Nor” title the following night.

Team Matrix (eight fighters), will fight at the Batley Frontier on August 19. Foundation classes (for beginners) are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7.15 and 8.45pm.

Fighters Training (competitors) train five days per week (9:30am-11:30 am) or (5,30-7pm).

Brazilian Jitsu Ju - sessions are held every Tuesday between 6pm-7.15pm.

TuTH F - Fighters’ Training sessions are held mornings between 9.30pm-11.30pm.
