Adam the apple of Frickley's eye
UNIBOND LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION HUCKNALL TOWN 2 FRICKLEY ATHLETIC 2 Two goals from the on form Adam Lee looked to have sealed an important and impressive win for the Blues only for Hucknall substitute Theo Smith to snatch a late equaliser.
Lee has made a massive impact since returning to Frickley from AFC Goole and the 22-year-old's three goals in three appearances have greatly helped the Blues' survival hopes.
The hosts had the better of the early exchanges and took a 14th minute lead when Reuben Wiggins-Thomas beat Dean Jones on the right and crossed for Tyeisse Nightingale to fire past Adam Nicklin.
Four minutes later, the Blues were back on level terms. Hucknall keeper Daniel Haystead could only parry a 25 yard free-kick from Chris White and after Jonathan Groome's follow-up effort was blocked, Lee pounced to steer home.
Lee almost added a second soon after when Danny Walsh collected a ball from the overlapping Ben Chapman and flicked into the area where the striker's effort was diverted by Haystead's legs.
But after the break, Lee did find the net. After squandering a chance after being put clear by White on 52 minutes, he made amends shortly after when he picked up a ball from Chapman and curled a 25 yard effort inside the far post.
Frickley seemed to be cruising to a victory which would have seen them move seven points clear of second bottom. But seven minutes from time, sub Smith intercepted a back header from Jones and while Nicklin parried his 25 yard drive, he was alert to pick up the rebound and smash home.
White almost snatched a stoppage time victory for Frickley but his free-kick was tipped over by Haystead.
On Saturday, the Blues host Matlock Town at Westfield Lane.
