GLADEDALE SOUTH YORKSHIRE CRICKET LEAGUE
PREMIER DIVISION

Doncaster Town 140
Elsecar 142 for 0

BEFORE Saturday Elsecar sat tied with Wickersley at the top of the Premier Division, so Saturday's contest at Town Field against bottom team Doncaster Town was a game they needed to take maximum points from.
But with talismanic bowler Lesroy Weekes unavailable the required result was not quite a formality. Doncaster batted first and looked good at 42 for 1 until a mistimed run and an excellent throw from Jason Meadows cost them their second wicket. The innings started to crumble from this point with Glenn Yates and Sri Lankan Amil Prasad most menacing. When Prasad disturbed the stumps for the eighth and ninth wickets in successive balls the innings looked virtually over at 113 for 9 with 10 overs left, but final partnership Jonathon Redfern and Nick Johnson added 27 runs, lasting almost eight overs until Yates made the final blow and Redfern left for a well merited 40. The Doncaster innings closed for 140. Prasad took 4 for 30 and Yates 3 for 33.

Tim Farmer and Jason Meadows led Elsecar's response and stayed to the end for a 10 wicket victory. Farmer was 62 not out with 8 fours and Meadows 71 not out with 10 fours. Thanks to Wickersley's demise at Hallam, Elsecar's destiny is now firmly back in their own hands.

Darfield 104
Wath 205 for 5

AT SCHOOL Street Darfield went down to a heavy defeat against neighbours Wath. The visitors batted first and their opening bat Vinay Devishetty compiled an imperious knock of 105 not out to carry his bat through the innings. He was supported by Johnny Younis with 33 and stumper James Barnard with 27 in a Wath total of 205 for 5.

In reply Darfield were beguiled by the accuracy of veteran Mark Wilson who carved his way through the middle of the innings for a reward of 4 for 14. Ian Adamson batted well towards the end with 7 fours in his 32 but Darfield were eventually all out for a score of 104, short of Wath by 101 runs. Rob Barlow closed the Darfield innings with a reward of 3 for 20.

Collegiate 120
Houghton Main 139

HOUGHTON Main gained a narrow win by 19 runs at Abbeydale. Nick Bisby opened with 40 but most of his team mated struggled to see the innings ion trouble at 80 for 6. Richard Jones smashed his way to 40 invaluable runs helped by 4 sixes. The innings closed at 139 all out with Mark Hickman (3 for 34) and Benjy Watson (3 for 20) taking 3 wickets each.

In response Collegiate lost both openers with just 8 runs between them. Israr Asif hit 30 and William Root 20 as Collegiate reached 113 for 5, with just 27 runs needed. Houghton's opening strike attack of Rob Jones and Leigh Brennan returned to destroy Collegiate hopes and the innings eventually closed at 120. Brennan took 4 for 22 and Rob Jones 3 for 21 for Houghton.

DIVISION TWO
Wath B 127 for 9
Mexborough 131 for 6

MEXBOROUGH will be playing Division One cricket next season after sealing their promotion with a thrilling win over their neighbours.

Matthew Hays scored a dogged 47 from 121 balls to hold the Wath innings together on a difficult track. Khadim Hussain and Steven Honeyman bowled well for Mexborough both taking 4 wickets for 31 and 33 respectively. After recent batting performances, Wath were reasonably happy with the total but the league leaders were confident of making the runs.
This confidence was justified in the end, but Mexborough made the winning hit with just 2 balls to spare after impressive Wath fielding and bowling had made run scoring very hard work. Sean Aitken got the table toppers off to a steady start with 29 and Richard Green made 28.

Former Wath player Rob Higgins was there at the end with 25 not out, but it was John Chantry who hit a huge final blow over mid-off for 6 to win the game. The visitors needed 6 to win from the last over, and 3 from the last 3 balls but Wath couldn't prevent Chantry from winning it.

Elsecar B 132 for 4
Rotherham Town B 128 for 9

AT ARMROYD Lane Elsecar B gained a vital victory against promotion rivals Rotherham Town B. The visitors were asked to defend first and Shaun Pedler grabbed the first 3 wickets to leave them at 37 for 3. A mini revival followed but further wickets tumbled to leave the innings in disaster at 72 for 8. Matt Watson led the final resistance with a personal contribution of 32 and a final total of 128 for 9. Shaun Pedler took 3 for 39.

Although Elsecar lost their first wicket without a run scored Adrian Meadows and Chris Pedler added 82 before the second wicket fell.

Meadows left at this point with his tally 50 and Chris Pedler reached 45 before he left. Elsecar reached their win with 4 wickets and 35.3 overs used. Matt Watson took 3 for 27.

Denaby 57
Treeton B 58 for 2

DENABY look to be in danger of back-to-back relegations as the Tickhill Square team collapsed to 57 all out against Treeton B. Only Gul Faraz reached double figures with 27 in the Denaby innings. Manny Mudhar was devastating with 5 for 11 for Treeton.

In reply Dave Morris scored 49 not out as Treeton proved victors with 2 wickets lost.

Dearne 235 for 6
Thorpe Hesley 102 for 9

THORPE Hesley are just 1 point away from relegation after they were well beaten by fellow strugglers Dearne at Goldthorpe. Jonathan Scaife opened with 86 and skipper Mark Lyons hit 44 as Dearne enjoyed a rare batting success with an innings total of 235 for 6. Andrew Webster took 4 for 42 for Thorpe.

Thorpe could not hope to meet such a large total and a steady procession of batsmen confirmed this. Skipper Russ Palmer did his best to hold the innings together and came in at number 4 to last 114 balls for 35 not out. The innings closed with Thorpe at 102 for 9.
