BARNSLEY CRICKET LEAGUE
AFTER four weeks of patchy play, the Barnsley Cricket League finally played host to action last weekend though cup commitments ensured only a handful of fixtures took place.
In Division One, Mike Alexander's blistering century propelled Rotherham Phoenix to a comfortable 155 run win over Taj Mahal.

Alexander blasted a quickfire 119 and with support by Mark Wright, who notched 72, Phoenix amassed 274-5.

In reply, Ta
j Mahal's batsmen came unstuck against the Phoenix attack and were rushed out for just 119.

In Division Two, Maltby Main opened up their campaign with a four wicket triumph over Grimethorpe.

Grimethorpe batted first and thanks to a fine 58 from M Crompton they piled up 181-7 from their 40 overs with Matthew Pendle taking 3-14.

Maltby made light work of the run chase as Tom Green's 79 and Mark Rowling's unbeaten half century steered them home with four wickets in hand.

R Oldham was the pick of the Grimethorpe attack with 5-54.

Mexborough's overseas star Richard Green scored an assured half century but his efforts were in vain as Kexbrough cruised to a six wicket win.

After some clean striking of the ball Green was out for 57 as Mexborough closed their innings on 184-9.

But that target was never enough as Kexbrough charged to victory with ten overs remaining.

Higham opened their account with a four wicket win over Thurgoland.
S Dyson top scored with 75 as Thurgoland were dismissed for 146 while Adam Sakels was the pick of the bowlers with 4-12.

Higham lost a couple of early wickets but Chris Prior (55no) and Oliver Green (35) led them to victory though Dyson capped off a fine all-round performance with 4-39.
