AS we're slap bang in the middle of WIMBLEDON fortnight there's very little chance to look past the latest events at SW19 on the TV this week.
Hopefully the great white hope - he's pale because he's Scottish - Andy Murray will still be galavanting on the grass by the time you read this, hoping to break the 73-year curse and take his place alongside the great Fred Perry, perhaps even launchi
ng his own clothing line at some point in the future.

His success is likely to depend on Roger Federer but there hasn't been a better placed Brit for some time. Follow the Misery-With-The-Muscles, daily, on the BBC – where you can use the red button feature to view different matches and find the latest scores and news.

Another major event in the midst of which we find ourselves is the BRITISH & IRISH LIONS tour of South Africa, where they hope to replicate their success from the last trip in 1997. After a tense first Test that brought a narrow defeat following an epic fightback, the Lions will be looking to save the series in the second clash from Loftus Versfield in Pretoria, where they have won three of four Tests played there. The action can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 from 1pm.
South Africa is the place to be right now with the final stages of the

CONFEDERATIONS CUP taking place this weekend. In what is being used as a warm-up for next year's World Cup, this meeting of each of the continents' best has been a decent end of season closer. The second semi final takes place tonight which looks set to be a showdown between Brazil and the hosts themselves and it can be seen on BBC3 from 7pm.

The final takes place on Sunday from 7pm.

Another football tournament coming to a close is the UEFA UNDER-21S CHAMPIONSHIP where England have performed well to reach the semi finals, both of which take place Friday evening from 4.30pm on Sky Sports 1. They were knocked out at this stage last time around and will hope to go one better to impress coach Stuart Pearce who has the ear of senior team boss Fabio Capello. The final is played on Monday, shown live on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm.

More of a local slant for the next week sees Dennis Priestley taking part in the LAS VEGAS DESERT CLASSIC which starts at 7pm on Sky Sports 1 next Wednesday. Last year, The Menace was knocked out in the second round by eventual winner Phil Taylor and will be looking to improve on his best performance of a quarter final slot in 2006.
