STEFY Bull's dream of winning three titles at three different weight classes is back on as he prepares to step between the ropes at his spiritual home in September, writes Liam Hoden.
The Conisbrough light welterweight will contest the vacant International Masters title at the Doncaster Dome on September 18, exactly a year after his last title shot, when he was narrowly beaten on points by Graeme Higginson.
And Bully is relishing the prospect of a second chance to add another crown to his collection.
"I'm really looking forward to it," the 32-year-old said.
"I started training last week and there's 12 weeks to go, so I'll have a nice long camp. I'm almost always in the gym but I broke my hand in the last fight, so I've been out for a while.
"My main goal is to win three titles at three weights and we'll see where it goes from there but I'm confident I can do it.
"At the age of 32 I know I've not got a lot of time left in the sport.
"If I can win this, hopefully it'll open a few more doors and let me see out my career in style.
"At this age it gets harder and harder, but I've still got the motivation especially when there's a title involved."
Bull's opponent looks likely to be Midlands Area champion Gavin Deacon who captured his strap by seeing off another Carl Greaves fighter who had lost just one fight previously.
"Deacon's not got the best record, but I've seen a DVD of him and he seems a decent fighter," Bull told the Times.
"He beat one of Carl's fighters Amir Unsworth who was nine fights, eight wins going in to win that Area belt. He beat him convincingly.
"He's not a hard hitting fighter, but he's really busy and has got a lot of heart. He's certainly beatable but a lot tougher than his record suggests.
"If that's the kid they get I'll be happy but I'm up for anything. If there's a title fight I'm up and excited about it."
Bull convincingly beat Baz Carey on points in Lincolnshire in March and since then he has been developing his future prospects outside the ring.
Next week he will embark on his professional coaching course – with the aim of nurturing a new wave of talent out of the Dearne Valley.
