CONNOR Nixon now has a hat-trick of national titles under his belt after landing the gold medal at the Tri Nations championship representing England, last weekend, writes Liam Hoden.
The Wombwell and Dearne ABC boxer dominated his Scottish counterpart at Portobello Hall in Edinburgh to add the title to his Clubs for Young People and Junior ABA championships won earlier this year.

He saw off the Welsh representative by 10 points to four on Friday to move into the final on Saturday which he strolled through for a 6-1 win.

If completing a hat-trick of national titles was not enough, the 15-year-old Hatfield native had to sandwich his appearance in the England jersey between two school exams, one taking place the previous afternoon to his first fight of the weekend!

Coach Eric Walker said: "He was brilliant. Three national titles in a row, a few months apart – how many kids have achieved that?

"Connor's just coming to the right age now and we'll have to see what he decides to do whether he'll be working towards turning professional or not. I think he'll stay away from that for now."

Meanwhile, another Walker fighter is set to return to the ring – and the coaching veteran is delighted to see him back.

Next month, former Wombwell and Dearne fighter Stuart Brookes will step through the ropes for the first time since the death of his brother Scott in April last year.

Walker added: "It makes me so proud to see Stuart getting back in there.

"I told him to not even think about boxing after Scott died, because if your head isn't in the game it only takes one shot to do you.

"I can tell he feels lost without Scott but we've just got to see what he can do now.
