PONTEFRACT AND DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE

FRICKLEY Colliery confirmed their place in the Yorkshire Cricket Council playoffs after a 50 run win at Sprotbrough maintained their second place spot in the Pontefract League.
An excellent second wicket partnership of 112 from Stephen Secker who struck 66 and Inderjit Hayre, who knocked a half ton, provided a sound base for the Frickley haul of 200-8 with Keith Whitehouse providing 37 himself.

Gary Bright and Andy Exton both took two wickets for Sprotbrough but failed to keep the score down.

Opener Bright retired hurt in what would quickly become a terrible start for Sprotbrough with five men down and only a dozen runs on the board.

Shane Payne and James Blacker started to create havoc in the centre on their way to four and two wicket hauls respectively but Bright made a brave return to strike 40 and get his side back on track alongside Martin Hargreaves who provided 55 runs.

The pair's unbroken stand of 70 guided a resolute Sprotbrough to a close of 150-6, albeit 50 runs short of their lofty target.

Colliery will travel to Wickersley Old Village of the South Yorkshire Cricket League in the Yorkshire Cricket Council playoffs this Sunday with wickets pitched at 12.30pm.

Hooton Pagnell's hopes of snatching the second playoff spot were dashed as they slumped to a 75 run defeat at the hands of Old Sharlston despite another fine all round display from Alwyn Dyke.

A solid 44 from R Kelsall anchored the home knock of 166-9 with Dyke claiming 3-49 before taking the willow and knocking 37 in Hooton's reply.

However, support was lacking and Hooton were all gone for 91 as R Simpson did the damage with figures of 5-36.

Struggling Wombwell gained four valuable points in their fight to beat the drop but lost by 47 runs as they welcomed Fishlake.

The visitors were sent into bat first with Charlie Metcalfe and Peter Butterworth producing an opening stand of 45 while Lee Johnson and Matthew Mason both passed the 20 mark to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Richard Copley arrived at the crease with just 21 balls remaining and blitzed a whirlwind 45no including 28 from the last over to carry Fishlake to a fine 217-6.

Though the high score did not flatter the Wombwell field, Marc Brampton took 3-30 from seven overs in his own personal bid for glory.

The loss of Lee Clayton early on to the on-form Tim Elliott who finished his day with 5-42 unsettled Wombwell from the off and they struggled until number six.

Then Matthew Tonks hit a stylish 55 with support from Richard Batty (20) and Brampton (25) but they were all out for 170 and Lee Johnson and Paul Moores supported Elliott in style with two wickets each of their own.

DIVISION TWO

CONISBROUGH remain well on course for the Division Two title after moving 19 points clear with a four wicket victory over chasing Whitley Bridge.

Whitley produced a solid haul as they reached 199-7 thanks to 39 from G Draper, 34 from C Smith and 32no from J Simpson under the assault of Craig Jackson who claimed two wickets.

Conisbrough got off to a flying start through Michael Blakemore who hit 52 and Paul Green, who knocked 51 then were guided comfortably to 203-6 by Paul Hemmingway who ended unbeaten on 31.

South Kirkby maintained their outside hopes of claiming the second promotion spot with a 96 run win over fellow chasers Barnby Dun.

An opening stand of 48 from Jacob Rimmington and Nicky Crooks was built on for Kirkby by Dale Woolsey and Dean Woolsey before a soxth wicket partnership of 56 from Jacob Peacock and Mark Crooks ensured they reached a healthy total of 182-9.

Mark Nurse and Jay Horne both bowled well for Barnby Dun to take seven wickets between them.

Dun were struggling on 30-7 as only Steve Barnes could reach double figures with his low 13 strike, and while Chris Broughton's 14 and Richard Barnes' 33 averted a complete disaster they were all gone for just 86, allowing Kirkby to move within three points of second place.

Superb bowling from Dean Woolsey and Steve Scott saw them claim six wickets between them for just 50 runs leaked while Peacock and Dale Woolsey eached claimed two victims.

Upper Haugh's late rise up the table continued as they produced a seven wicket victory over rock bottom West Bretton at Wentworth Road.

D Wood and M Dutton contributed the meat to a knock of 150 from Bretton but the remainder of the order fell easy prey to Rob Oxberry and Chris Lambert who each took three wickets.

Oxberry then continued his good form with a 60 run haul with the willow while Darren Hough struck 73 as Haugh comfortably reached 151-3.
While their first team counterparts chase championship glory, Frickley Colliery 2nd XI are deep in the relegation more after they went down by eight wickets at home to Darton.

Scot Pinder's 23 and 48 from Ashley Vickers have Colliery a sound start but they failed to build with only George McIntyre (14), James Handley (25) and Terry Hinchcliffe (21no) enjoying lenghty stays at the crease as they reached 158-8.

Darton's attack from P Jenson (3-45), H Moore (2-16) and S Park (2-55) did the damage.

An unbeaten 93 from P Hanson underpinned the Darton response with A Burkill's 32 and R Damms' 24no helping them comfortably steer to 160 with two wickets down courtesy of Richard Hepworth.
