Darfield gain first victory of the season
GLADEDALE SOUTH YORKSHIRE CRICKET LEAGUE
PREMIER DIVISION
Barnsley B 136
Darfield 140-7
DARFIELD recorded their first victory of the campaign as they moved past a hapless Barnsley B team who have fallen to the bottom of the league with just one point from three games.
Shaw Lane hosts Barnsley took to the centre first and looked to be heading for a good total as they stood on 91-1 with 17-year-old Luke Bullingham batting doggedly to reach an eventual 57.
The fall of the second started the collapse and the whole side was gone for 136 with the last nine wickets dropping for just 45 runs largely thanks to figures of 4-30 from Paul Wilkinson.
Darfield made hard work of their task and looked to be rocking on 82-5 but Simon Potter batted with purpose to reach 40no and guide his side to a three wicket victory.
Doncaster Town B 198-6
Wath 190-6
OVERSEAS stars dominated the clash at Town Fields as Wath fell short by just eight runs against Doncaster Town B.
The hosts batted first with debutant Shahnawaz Adeel from Pakistan joining the centre after the first wicket fell and not leaving until the end of the innings.
He stroked six fours and three sixes to record 100no in 124 balls to see the Doncaster effort close on 198-6.
Wath's Vinay Devishetty refused to be outdone by Adeel and produced a cultured 104 in 115 balls to mount a strong response while Matt Burrows struck 33 to take his side to the brink only to just run out of time.
Elsecar 170-4
Treeton 167
ELSECAR'S title intentions were plain to see as they pulled off a thrilling win over rivals and previous champions Treeton at Armroyd Lane.
The visitors opted to bat first and looked in good form, standing at 40-1 after 10 overs then 78-2 after 24.
Home spinner Alan Shore was introduced into the attack and quickly claimed two wickets in successive overs with Andy Tomlinson falling for a strong 52 which featured seven fours and a six.
Skipper Ian Swallow took hold of the ball and had Treeton reeling on 104-5 before completing excellent figures of 6-29 but Daryl Guy held the innings together with a fine 36 as his side were all out for 167.
Treeton struck quickly in response to see both openers off for just 25 runs but this brought in the partnership of Swallow and Brett Hunsley who produced a delightful array of shots after a resolute opening to chalk up a match winning partnership of 90.
Hunsley was stumped for 41 before Swallow left for 69 but Elsecar reached the target without further loss with five overs and six wickets to spare.
Wickersley O.V. 132
Houghton Main 133 for 8
HOUGHTON Main produced a superb turnaround to record their first Premier Division win with a shock victory over Wickersley Old Village at Northfield Lane.
Main sent their hosts in first and after both openers fell for 48, accurate bowling by Nick Bisby restricted their progress to 77-5.
Defiance from Asadulla Butt with 49 could not prevent former Wickersley favourite Rob Jones from polishing off the remainder for 132 with 4-11 in 11 overs.
Houghton's response was on its knees at 59-7 under a varied attack but stubborn resistance came from Aussie Leigh Brennan and the firepower of stumper Andrew Joburns, who blasted seven fours to reach 35 off 30 balls.
Joburn's demise left Main on 95-8 and staring defeat in the face but Brennan stood firm while Mick Townsend knocked 25 off 47 balls to guide his side to a famous victory.
DIVISION ONE
Rockingham 121
Warmsworth 51
DESPITE struggling to just 121 against an accurate Warmsworth attack, Rockingham became joint leaders of Division One as they demolished their visitors at Hoyland Common.
Opener John Ashton top scored with 30 for Rockingham but Neil Wolsey's 3-28 and Liam Marshall's 3-16 gave Warmsworth the edge.
The ascension of Andy Moore to the attack caused a continuous procession of Warmsworth batsmen to retreat to the pavilion as their innings floundered at 36-5.
Soon Warmsworth were all done on 51 with Moore claiming a remarkable 7-27 from just ten overs.
