The Shaw Lane side beat local rivals Rotherham Town on Monday to be the only team with maximum points and sit at the top of the table - as they did this time last season.
Victory over Rotherham came after some good bowling performances from Joe El
lis and Mark Lawson, who both ended with 3-24, while Greig Batty chipped in with 2-12 and Andy Carrington with 2-30 as Rotherham were skittled for 94 in just 34 overs.
Jordan Lowe's 31 not out was their best performance but their total always looked fragile.
In reply, Barnsley reached 97-5 in 24.4 overs, but things began badly for the home side as they slumped to 12-4 after Greg Norton took three wickets in four balls for Rotherham in the seventh over.
Two days earlier Barnsley had taken another eight points in a win over Sheffield United.
They made 216-5 in their 55 overs, and United were back in the pavilion for just 99 runs with Joe Ellis taking 4-35 to start a good weekend.
Rotherham Town lost out to Hull on Saturday as they made 141 in their innings with Graham Higgins scoring 47 and Greg Norton 32 and Hull lost just four wickets on their way to a winning score of 144-4.
Rotherham entertain Sheffield Collegiate in a Yorkshire League match this Saturday while Barnsley travel to Castleford.
Doncaster Town are also unbeaten and just two points behind Barnsley after securing two more wins.
On Saturday they beat Scarborough by 50 runs and it was largely thanks to the efforts of Andrew Parkin-Coates with 64 runs that they reached a total of 137 all out which looked vulnerable.
But in reply Scarborough struggled to cope with some great bowling from Town and they were all out for 87 runs.
The wickets were spread through the Doncaster side with Graham Attenborough taking 2-5, Paul Stokoe 2-6, Alex Gosney 2-11 and Parkin-Coates 2-35.
And on Bank Holiday Monday Doncaster secured another six points with a victory over Sheffield Collegiate.
Batting first, Collegiate made 174-9 in their 55 overs, but Town's bowlers did another good job with Kashif Raza taking 2-18, Paul Stokoe 2-42 and Parkin-Coates 2-51.
It took Doncaster almost their full allocation of overs to reach a winning score, but they made it to 176-8 with seven balls left with Graham Attenborough leading the way with 93.
This Saturday, Doncaster travel to East Yorkshire to play Driffield in another league match.
