A GROUP of big hearted youngsters have raised hundreds of pounds for a military charity in the name of a fallen Barnsley soldier.
Members of the Mexborough-based Kidz Du Care group staged a variety show at the Dearne Playhouse in Goldthorpe on Friday, June 15, and raised £850 for Help For Heroes. They chose to support the charity after Private Matthew Thornton, 28, lost his life when he was caught up in an explosion in Afghanistan in November 2011.
The show in his honour saw more than 40 young people, aged four to 17, take to the stage to sing, dance and perform. Project co-ordinator Jill Arkley-Jevons said: “It was a wonderful show. We had 32 difference scenes incorporating different styles of dance, comedy and singing.
“We had young people of all ages from across the Dearne taking part.”
