THE thoughtfulness of pupils at a Dearne school was rewarded recently - when their actions were mirrored by some grateful recipients.
Youngsters from Y8 received a bundle of thank-you cards from elderly people across the Dearne, who had received special hand-written cards from pupils at Christmas.
The cards came with a covering letter from Lynne Wright, a Barnsley daycare manager for Age UK....and profusive thanks.
Lynne said of the earlier special delivery sent out from the Dearne ALC: “The cards we received were a welcome surprise for eveyone. Some members were still chatting about their cards and who made them well in to the New Year.
“It really is the thought that counts....cards being hand-made and individually signed by young people.”
Staff and youngsters at the Dearne Advanced Learning Centre maintain strong links with the elderly within the community, with visits from pupils to local residential homes, on a regular basis, and pensioners being invited in to school to share in special days and activities.
Recently pupils have learned how to record history by conducting a series of interviews with elderly folk from the local community.
