The project leaders say their intention is to build “the best school in South Yorkshire - one where local pupils will be able to experience the very best traditions of private education in a publicly-funded school”.
But a report to Rotherham Cabinet spelled out that the schools could face ‘dire consequences’ - and lose its Sixth Form - if the academy goes ahead. Wentworth MP John Healey also opposes the plans.
The Government has approved the Academy plans to progress to the ‘business case and plan stage’ in January.
