MEDIEVAL charters giving details of Barnsley’s rich history have been made available to see online for the first time.
The 16 original charters all date from between 1180 and 1500 and can be viewed in their entirety via the archives and local Studies website at www.barnsley.gov.uk/archives.

The scheme has been organised by staff and volunteers working on the Experience Barnsley project, in preparation for the opening of the new Barnsley Museum and Archives Centre next year.
They wanted to demonstrate that Barnsley’s history goes far beyond coal mining and industry.
The charters have details of medieval landholdings and the building of schools in the area.
