Warning after chimney blaze

Firefighters are calling on Dearne homeowners to get their chimneys swept after a fire at a family home.

Firefighters were called to a blaze in Doncaster involving a chimney last Wednesday. A log fire had been lit, but a build up of soot caused excessive smoke.

A brigade spokesperson said: “Chimneys in use should be swept at least once a year, with those serving log or coal fires more regularly.”
