DEARNE voters will be heading to the polls next week to vote for South Yorkshire’s first ever Police and Crime Commissioner.

The PCCs, as they will be known, will be tasked with scrutinising their force and holding it to account. They will also be able to hire and dismiss the chief constable and set the force’s budget.

The five candidates in the running in South Yorkshire are: English Democrat Dave Allen, UKIP’s Jonathan Arnott, Liberal Democrat Robert Teal, Conservative Nigel Bonson and Labour hopeful Shaun Wright.

Polling stations across the area will open at 7am and close at 10pm on November 15.
