A DISABLED Kilnhurst man received a visit from a senior councillor and a housing firm boss to mark a special milestone.

Matthew Smith, 26, who suffers from cerebral palsy, recently moved out of his parents home in the village into a specially-adapted bungalow at Eagleton Gardens in Swinton.

The development marked the completion of 5000 affordable homes by building firm Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust (JJHT) in little over 40 years.

To mark the ocassion, Matthew welcomed JJHT Chair of the Board, Kath Lavery, and Swinton Councillor Ken Wyatt to his home for a small celebratory ceremony with a special commemorative 5000 homes cake.

Matthew said: “It is a lovely place and I have settled in well, my neighbours are so helpful.

“I am enjoying my independence and love having my own space.”
