A community is living in a state of fear after a man was brutally raped by two others in an alleyway late at night.
A man aged in his 40s was allegedly assaulted and raped by two men in a ginnel between Fulwood Drive and Ashcourt Drive in Balby at 12.10am on Monday.
This latest incident follows a string of recent other sex attacks in the area.
Shocked residents who live close to the scene described the attack as “disturbing” and told how they will now avoid using the thoroughfare after dark.
One man aged in his 50s who was walking his dog through the ginnel yesterday morning said: “We saw how police had cordoned the scene off and it was quite alarming to see. I wouldn’t come through here at night.”
Two elderly women using the path were also in a state of shock.
One said: “We only use it in the day time but I think we might avoid it all together now. It’s terrible and a sad state of affairs when you feel like you can’t use a pathway to get home.”
A woman who lives in nearby Woodknot Mews added: “A sex attack is shocking anyway, but I think it is particularly unusual that it has happened to a man. It’s very disturbing.“
She called for more safety features in the ginnel in a bid to deter further attacks.
“It is not very well lit so extra lighting might stop this kind of thing from happening again.”
South Yorkshire Police said the victim did not know his attackers and one of them carried out the sexual assault before running off towards Tickhill Road.
The two men are described as being 5ft 9ins tall and both wearing denim jeans. One of the suspects was wearing a grey jacket.
Detective Sergeant Peter Swift appealed for anyone with information to come forward and said: “I would like to reassure residents that this investigation is being treated as an absolute priority and the victim is currently receiving support by specially trained officers.
“A thorough investigation into this matter is now underway and we will be reviewing CCTV footage of the area.”
This incident comes after a woman was reportedly robbed and raped at knife-point by three men in an alleyway off Queen Street in Balby around 11pm on February 20.
In addition, police are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man on Doncaster’s Town Fields at 4pm on March 17.
But Det Sgt Swift said: “There is no evidence or suggestion to say that they are linked. We believe the crimes are isolated incidents.”
Anyone with information about the latest incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 16 of 21 March 2016.
