VIDEO: Geeks get unleashed at Doncaster Dome

Almost 2,000 people travelled to Doncaster Dome today for a ‘geek’ convention.

From action figures to comics to lego, the Geeks Unleashed convention had it all - and went down a storm with fans of science fiction from across the district.

Chairman of the Yorkshire Cosplayers society, Alex Carr, 20 from Goldthorpe, helps to organise trips to science fiction conventions across the country for fellow lovers of the genre - and said he was pleasantly surprised by the Geeks Unleashed convention.

He said “I think it’s the first Geeks Unleashed one they’ve done so it’s been pretty impressive. We’ve met some interesting people, and it’s been fun.”

The event was organised by Mark Longman from Grimsby, who says he decided to put the convention on because ‘everyone needs a bit of escapism, so why not celebrate it’.

Mark says the event has a been a great success, and intends to return to the Dome next year for international Star Wars day on May 4, when he will put on a similar event with appearances from some surprise Star Wars stars.
