VIDEO: Flip flip hooray for the Doncaster pancake olympics

Scores of families headed over to Doncaster market place this lunch time for the town’s inaugural pancake olympics.

From pancake tossing to a pancake relay, a whole host of fun events were on offer at the Shrove Tuesday-themed event.

Youngster Kiera Malloy won a pancake throwing competition.

The 10-year-old said: “It was fun, I’m happy to have won.

“I hope I do well in the final.”

A number of Doncaster mascots took part in the day’s festivities in fancy dress including Doncaster Knights mascot, Donny the White Knight, Vila the Doncaster Dons mascot and the Frenchgate shopping centre’s mascot, Frenchie. Money raised on the day through the pancakes stall and competition entry fees will be split between the Donmentia and Children’s Trust charities.

Hayley O’Grady of the Doncaster Markets Team said the day had been a great success.

She said: “We wanted to hold the event to raise money for charity and to promote the market place.

“We’ve had some great events, and there’s been a great turnout.

“Lots of families have come and really seem to be enjoying themselves.”

Linda Hill attended the event with her children and grandchildren, which she said had been a hit with everyone.

The 61-year-old said: “I’m enjoying the day, it’s been great fun and the children have loved it.

“I hope it comes back next year, it’s great and it keeps the kids occupied during half-term!”
