Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with an incident that broke out in a Doncaster village.

The incident took place in Mutual Street, Hexthorpe at around 8pm, when residents report that a street brawl, during which a number of people were threatened with a knife, led to police being called out and arrests being made.

However, police have now confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with a stolen car, and that no 'weapons' were found.

Inspector for the Doncaster Central Local Policing Tea, Lynne Lancaster, said: "There was an incident with a stolen car yesterday and two men were arrested at the scene. Although there is mention of a weapon by members of the public, the men were searched and no weapon was found. Enquiries are still ongoing.

"Additional patrols of the area and enforcement of the Public Space Protection Order will continue.

"I’m acutely aware of the issues present in Hexthorpe and we are committed to continuing to work with you to make Hexthorpe an enjoyable and safe place to live for everyone. I acknowledge we have work to do and I’m dedicated to doing that as a partnership with the council and the community."

One resident claims this is the second knife incident to have taken place in the village this week, and has left many in the area feeling scared.

Commenting on the incident, Bridget Currie said: "Hexthorpe is getting worse our children can't play out with out something kicking off."

Mick N Jayne Nixon added: "Hexthorpe is getting like a wars zone it's stupid I love this village . My wife and I are scared to let our daughter go out and play."

This comes just three weeks after a man was slashed in the face with a knife in broad daylight during an attack on Urban Road.

Public spaces protection orders were introduced in Hexthorpe last summer after racial tensions and violent offences in the village reached fever pitch.
