Union protest at Doncaster station

Protesters from the rail union RMT were targeting Doncaster Station this morning as part of a campaign to keep the East Coast mainline in public ownership.

It is part of a day of action which is seeing its members handing out leaflets to passengers at the station, as well as at stations in London, Leeds, Wakefield, Newcastle, Berwick and Edinburgh.

The union says since being taken back into public ownership in 2009, when National Express said it could no longer afford to run it, the line has improved considerably and passengers are pleased with the service, and claims the government is determined to “bulldoze through” re-privatisation of the line before the next general election.
