Heartbroken pals of Mexborough death crash trio Robert Tepper, Jonathan Scott and Lauren Birkett now have a permanent – and safer – spot to keep laying tributes to their friends.
The teenagers’ families gathered to plant a trio of cherry trees (below right) at the crash scene on Adwick Road – opposite the current “tribute site”, which is dangerous to reach.
The trees each bear a coloured ribbon denoting each teenagers’ favourite colour – purple for Lauren, pink for Robert and orange for Jono.
Lauren’s dad Andy Birkett said the trees would provide a safer place for friends to lay their tributes – without their having to cross the busy road to the current memorial.
He said the idea had come from teenager Chloe Newby, who survived the crash.
Meanwhile, at a separate ceremony at the Ferryboat fishing ponds, a bench and trophy were unveiled as a tribute to keen angler Robert.
The annual Bobby Tepper Memorial Trophy will be presented yearly at a special open tournament in his name, run by the Ferryboat Junior Fishing Club.
