Teen left critical - witness appeal

A TEENAGER suffered ‘life-threatening’ head injuries after his car collided with a lorry.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident that occurred between Grimethorpe and Middlecliffe at about 7am on the morning of September 23.

The blue Kia Picanto was travelling on the A6195 Park Spring Road towards Middlecliffe when it appears to have veered across the carriageway.

It collided with a burgundy Mercedes Actros LGV with a draw bar trailer, that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Picanto rebounded off the carriageway, hitting some trees before it finally ground to a halt.

The driver of the Picanto, a 17-year-old local youth, sustained critical injuries and was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital, where he was detained.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the Picanto in Shafton or the A6195 prior to the collision, or anyone who may have information about the collision itself.
