Quad biker breaks leg falling off his machine

A quad biker was seriously injured when he fell off his machine and it rolled on top of him.

The 25-year-old, from Staincross, Barnsley, fell off the bike on Newland Road just after 6pm on Thursday as he was riding on an uphill section from the direction of New Lodge Crescent.

Police said he fractured a leg in the incident.

Officers are also investigating a collision involving a car which drove the wrong way down the M1 motorway yesterday morning.

A silver Peugeot 206 was driven in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway near junction 31 at Aston, where it collided with a lorry at the exit slip road.

The Peugeot 206 driver, a 22-year-old Rotherham man, sustained minor injuries to his chest and was taken to hospital.
