Cyclist dies in Crowle crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died in a crash on the A18 near Crowle this morning.

Paramedics and police rushed to the stretch of road between Crowle and Thorne at about 5.15am on Wednesday, January 11.

It is believed a white Mercedes Sprinter van was involved in the collision with a cyclist which was travelling in front of the van prior to the crash.

The road was closed at Medge Hall and Crowle crossroads shortly after the incident.

The cyclist, believed to be a man in his 40s, sustained extensive injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.

The van driver, a 27-year-old local man, was taken by ambulance to Scunthorpe General Hospital for treatment for minor injuries but he was not detained.
