THE light of 300 Chinese lanterns lit the skies over Mexborough and Conisbrough on New Year’s Eve – as hundreds of heartbroken families paid tribute to the passing of triple death crash victims Jonathan Scott, Robert Tepper and Lauren Birkett.

In a spontaneous outpouring of grief, hundreds converged on the fields of Mexborough School – just yards from the crash scene – to release the lanterns at 8pm... the time that the accident happened, four days earlier.

It was the night of a thousand stars as Chinese lanterns floated into the New Year’s Eve skies over Mexborough and Conisbrough in memory of the death crash victims and the Times was on hand to record the uplifting scenes.
