Two boys aged 15 and 16 have been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries, following a spate of arsons in the region.

Three fires were started in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Maltby area.

The first incident occurred at 0219hrs at a garage on Blyth Road when a number of vehicles were set alight.

The second incident occurred half an hour later at 0249hrs on Millicent Gardens.

A camper van and a Vauxhall Astra van were destroyed by the fire which also spread to nearby properties.

The occupants of three properties were evacuated.

Significant damage was caused to the front of the properties.

The third incident was at 0432hrs when a caravan parked on a driveway in Mortimer Road was damaged. The Fire Service attended and put out the fire. No one was injured during the incidents.

Detective Sergeant Iain Martin said; “We’re keen to hear from anyone with information. I am aware of the concern locally about this matter but urge people to support the police in our investigations rather than taking matters into their own hands.”
