Teams needed for dragon boat race

SPORTY residents are being urged to make a splash to help a charity’s overseas development projects.

Phase Worldwide, which is working to provide education programmes in Nepal, is holding a dragon boat challenge on Manvers Lake at Wath on July 1 and is inviting teams to apply.

More than 30 crews have already signed up to race in 30ft long Chinese dragon boats on a 200 metre course.

Teams need to be made up of 10 paddlers, a drummer for the front of the boat and someone to steer at the tail.

Marie Cragg, trustee of Phase, said: “There is still plenty of time to raise a team and join in the fun. No experience is required, just plenty of team spirit.”
