A kindhearted Swinton councillor helped to raise vital funds for the town’s Children’s Centre during a charity race night.

Coun Stuart Sansome, who is also a union branch secretary for Tata Steel, hosted the event at Roundwood Sports and Social Club in Rotherham and was joined at the fundraiser – sponsored by union lawyers, Tata Speciality Steels and Community Union – by union members from as far afield as London and Wales.

A grand total of £1,471 was raised with some going to Swinton Children’s centre and some to the Rotherham Mayor’s charities.

Coun Sansome said: “I am very proud that we have been able to support these fantastic organisations who in turn provide vital support to a diverse range of people in Rotherham and district. We received very generous contributions from our sponsors, Labour councillors and individuals who freely donate time and money.
