A LETTER from the Queen arrived as a former sweet maker celebrated her centenary.

Nora Newby, of The Grove Care Home, turned 100 on Wednesday last week and celebrated with her family and the other residents.

Margaret Bunn, her daughter, said: “At 100, you have everything you need and want so I bought her some artificial flowers in a vase to brighten up her bedroom.

“Her letter from the Queen said congratulations for reaching 100 years and then it had a picture of the Queen and was signed Elizabeth R.”

Originally a confectioner from Middleton Junction, Nora was married for a happy 48 years and has one daughter, two grandchildren and three great grand children.
