A TRAINED firefighter who is gearing up to take on the ‘toughest footrace on Earth’ by covering 150 miles of the Sahara Desert, is hosting a fundraising ball.

Fitness fanatic Andrew Landells, of Tickhill, has organised a Run the World Ball at the Earl of Doncaster Hotel, Bennetthorpe, on Friday, November 16, from 7pm, in aid of Mencap.

The winner of the Sporting Hero category in this year’s Pride in Doncaster awards is only a few months away from taking on the Marathon Des Sables trek - a challenge many of its competitors fails to finish or drop-out because of its gruelling nature.

For tickets to the black tie dinner and dance event, priced £45, call 07545 341084.
