STUDENTS have saddled up to help with a charity horse and dog show.

The Doncaster College group from the animal care and horse care courses rode in the in-hand classes and the ridden classes.

They were also involved in the organisation of the event held by Friends of the Northern Racing College.

The show took place in the grounds of the Northern Racing College off Great North Road where the college students have also been attending for weekly classes.

Reece Rowland, 18, of Mexborough, won first place in the in-hand championship.

Level three animal care student Mika Rodgers, 19 from Skellow, and Dolly - the college’s Shetland Pony - came second in the mountain and moorland class and qualified for Equifest in-hand show mountain and moorland later on in the year.

Laura Astles, a college lecturer, said: “The learners had a great day and enjoyed every minute of the experience. Our college notice boards are now filled with lots of lovely rosettes.”
