Students at an Epworth school are appealing to the public to help them compile a WWl memorial project.
Youngsters from years eight and nine at South Axholme Academy are collating information and history about the people behind the names on Epworth War Memorial for a centenary exhibition to be staged at Lincoln Cathedral.
South Axholme Academy’s head of English Sheelah Handy said: “We need to find out everything we can about the names, from family members who still may live in this area, from photographs or from any other source of local information. If anyone can provide us with useful material we would love to receive it.”
She continued: “Pupils will also be looking at the history behind the design of the war memorial, that is on land gifted to the community. The work on this will be ongoing within the English and history departments, involving myself and another teacher Joanne McDonagh. The project is creating a lot of interest and also includes a writing competition involving a range of subjects linked to the First World War.”
Anyone who feels they may be able to help the class groups with their project should contact either teacher on 01427 872121.
