generous inmates and staff at a Doncaster prison had the weight of the world on their shoulders as they lifted a total of 2,000 tonnes for a children’s charity.

The pressure was on for the team of 20 at HMP & YOI Doncaster prison who each lifted enough weights to raise thousands for Bluebell Wood Children’s hospice.

Prison PE teacher Brian Long said: “We’ve raised over £1,000 already and we are hoping that will be matched by management and we’ve got more money still coming in so fingers crossed we should get around £3,000.

“Everyone loved taking part we’ve been overwhelmed by the response we got and everyone who was involved is over the moon about how much we’ve raised.

“We were aching a bit the next day but it was worth it.”

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at a hospice.

Anyone who still wants to donate can send a cheque to the PE department of HMP & YY Doncaster, Marshgate, DN5 8UX.
