EMBATTLED Mexborough market traders this week accused horse-loving Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies of gambling with their futures.
The traders have reared up in their stalls against Doncaster Council’s proposed stunning rent hike of FIVE HUNDRED per cent at the indoor market.
Labour Leader Ed Miliband immediately joined them in their protest, after being alerted to the situation by last week’s Times exclusive story.
He wrote to the Mayor, demanding a rethink on the proposal.
But even as that was happening, the council came up with a new, bizarre gamble – to review the situation... six months AFTER traders have been made to sign up to the deal, in a binding contract!
The market men and women reacted by accusing the Mayor of gambling with the market’s future with the wait-and-see policy.
And they warned that by the time the six months was up, the market might be “half-empty” – and on its way to oblivion.
