South Yorkshire woman Sally Salter could not even tie her laces without breaking into a sweat a couple of years ago.

Now, after dropping six and a half stone, the slimmer has set her sights on the London Marathon.

Sally, aged 45, said: “If anyone had told me two years ago I would be running the London Marathon I would have laughed out loud and told them they were mad.

“I just wanted to tie my laces without wheezing.”

Sally’s weight escalated in 2002, when she tipped the scales at 15st 5lb after having her son, Frey, now 11.

Becoming a new mum meant she found no time to exercise and ate junk food.

Sally, who lives with her partner Dave, said: “I had high blood pressure and, although the weight hadn’t affected my physical health too significantly, mentally I really struggled.

“I was diagnosed with clinical depression and didn’t want to go outside or participate in anything.”

Sally was sparked into action when she was invited to a friend’s wedding and knew she would be meeting people she had not seen in years.

She joined Slimming World and swapped her unhealthy diet for home-cooked healthy meals and slimmed down to 8st 11lb.

She also rekindled her love for keeping fit.

She said: “Now I workout six times a week, sometimes twice a day. I run, box, circuit train, do boot camp, swim, cycle and obstacle courses – I can’t get enough.

“I no longer feel ‘forever tired’ and feel like I have infinite energy. My mental health has also improved dramatically and I have found I no longer need to take anti-depressants. I’m much more confident and bubbly, at work and home.”

Sally, of Glen View, Mexborough, will run the London Marathon on Sunday as part of the Slimming World team to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The cause is close to Sally’s heart because she was diagnosed with an early form of cancer herself in 2009. This, along with endometriosis and fibroids, resulted in her having to have a hysterectomy.
