SLIDESHOW: Hundreds say goodbye to brave Alexander Strong.

Waiting for Video...

EPWORTH came to a standstill as hundreds paid their final respects to Alexander Strong.

The funeral of the seven-year-old was held at Wesley Memorial Church after the brave fighter known as Lex lost his battle against cancer.

People stopped to stare when a host of Lex’s favourite green balloons spiralled into the sky, as the hearse and family party arrived at Epworth’s Wesley Memorial Church in High Street.

Then there was the surreal sight of three of Lex’s favourite Star Wars characters walking into the crammed-to-capacity church, ahead of the small green coffin covered in photographs. Alex’s dad Mark was one of the pallbearers.

The Epworth Primary School pupil lost his battle against a rare form of cancer neuroblastoma last month. A fund set up to help pay for his treatment will now be used to help families who have children suffering from cancer.

After a moving church service Alexander’s was taken on his final journey to Woodlands Crematorium for a committal service.
