SLIDESHOW: Award winners have licence to thrill
Licensees from across the borough scooped prestigious awards at this year’s Best Bar None Awards evening .
Doncaster Council’s nationally recognised Best Bar None scheme held its seventh annual presentation night on Monday January 21 at Doncaster Racecourse, where licensees were rewarded for the safe and responsible management of licensed premises.
Over 400 licensees and guests attended the night, which was hosted by Doncaster radio station Sine FM and sponsored by Heineken, Diagio, Britvic and Highfield ABC. A charity auction on the night raised £2,700 which will be donated to The Aurora Centre.
The overall 2013 Doncaster Best Bar None Winners award went to Cask Corner and was presented by Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies. The venue, renowned for its real ale also scooped the award for Best Pub.
Mr Davies opened the awards night and said afterwards: “I am a great supporter of the Best Bar none scheme and these annual awards are a great way of acknowledging the good work of members who go the extra mile to contribute to our thriving evening economy.”
The standards of the venues and the positive attitude of the licensees means that Doncaster continues to develop its reputation as one of the region’s best night time destinations.
South Yorkshire Police Supt Peter Norman, said: “The Best Bar None scheme has been running in Doncaster since 2006 and it seeks to reward licensees who provide good management, provide a safe and enjoyable environment for customers, discourage binge drinking and prevent alcohol-related crime.
“All the participating licensees have done a fantastic job in helping us to achieve a 10 per cent reduction in violent crime so far this year and all their efforts contribute to making Doncaster a safer place in which to live, work and visit.”
The Best Bar award went to The Courtyard and Best Leisure Venue award was scooped by Keepmoat Stadium. Ziniz was crowned the Best Bawtry Area Venue and the Community Pub award went to The Maple Tree in Balby.
There are also additional media awards, which are voted for by the public.
The Doncaster Free Press award for “Friendliest Atmosphere” went to Number Fifteen with over 50 per cent of the votes.
The efforts of Doncaster door staff were also rewarded with a “Best on Door” award Sponsored by Sine FM and Prosec UK Security, the winner was Social on Bradford Row.
The final Media award, a new one for this year and sponsored by What’s On 4 Me and Doncaster CAMRA, was for the Best real pub and was won by The Salutation.
