A skate park for young people in South Axholme has moved a step closer with a promise of £80,000 from North Lincolnshire Council.

Council chiefs are working in partnership with South Axholme Academy and the Axholme SK8 P4rk Committee to develop a skate park on the South Axholme Academy site.

Students at South Axholme School have already consulted with the wider community and, to ensure young people are kept involved, they have submitted a preliminary design for the skate area. The plan is to have the facility up and running by the summer.

SK8 P4rk committee member, Mark Chatterton, said: “It’s fantastic news that after all the hard work and dedication that has been shown by the young people and committee members from Epworth and, together with the support from the council and South Axholme Academy, the project is now going ahead and I look forward to seeing it through to completion in the summer”

Axholme Central ward Coun Liz Redfern, said: “This is a really important scheme for young people in the Isle and that’s why we have secured £80,000 for its delivery from the councils budget.

“It is really encouraging to see the enthusiasm of the young people. This is something they want and are very keen to get involved in. I look forward to seeing the project develop. I have to praise and thank South Axholme School for working with us on the scheme.”
