Heading out on her debut tour of the UK, London-based singer-songwriter Charlene Soraia visits Sheffield next month when she plays in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday 10 April 2012.
Charlene is best known for her cover of the The Calling’s Wherever You Will Go, which was featured in a TV advert for Twinings tea last year and subsequently earned her a number 2 place in the iTunes chart and a number 3 in the UK Singles Chart.
She received further attention when contestant, Sophie Habibis sang Charlene’s version on The X Factor 2011.
Whilst many will appreciate Charlene’s beautiful voice on Wherever You Will Go, the 23 year old is also a highly accomplished guitarist and her love of the instrument has developed her distinctive fret flexing style that is incredible to listen to and mesmerizing to watch. Self taught since the age of five, it was this talent along with Soraia’s hippified individuality which won her a coveted place at the Brit School where her peers were Adele, ROX and Kate Nash. Even at such a young age she has captivated imaginations sufficiently to be invited to tour with the likes of Stephen Fretwell, Howard Elliot Payne, Kami Thompson and Jon Allen.
Now signed to Indie label Peacefrog Records, home of Little Dragon, Nouvelle Vague and José González, Soraia released her debut album Moonchild in November last year and it’s this album which is the focus of her forthcoming tour.
